The Birth of Bentley | Denver Birth Photographer

I am so excited to share the images from this birth I had to privilege to photograph for Evie and James.   But first, Let me share a little bit about my passion for birth photography.

My first daughter was born at 4:30am.  I had been contracting nearly every 10 minutes for about 5 days prior to going into actual “labor”.  By the time she got here, I was exhausted.  We have some pictures from the day she was born, but not many and they are not great.  My memories of her birthday have faded a bit.  And honestly, I didn’t even witness her first bath because I could barely leave my eyes open after she was born so I just let them take her to the nursery.  If only I had a professional there to document my little girl’s birthday.  The day I became a mother.   One of the best days of my life.   Those images are ones that I can never get back, though I wish I could.  It was a once in a lifetime event.

Since then, birth photography has become a passion of mine.  You document your wedding day.  Is your baby’s birthday less important?  For me, the answer is no.  I think there is a perception that if you are photographing a birth, you must be photographing the baby crowning.  Wrong.  That is completely up to the mother.  Most mothers want the expressions of the day documented.  The challenge and the reward and the wonder of the day.  Our bodies are miraculously capable of bringing tiny humans into this world.  How incredible is that?  I still look at my two girls in awe.  My husband and I created them.  And I carried them and brought them into this world.  And they are perfect…down to the creases on their ears.  The birth of a baby is an occasion worth documenting.  So when Evie asked me to be apart of such a special day, I could not have been more excited and more honored.

Baby Bentley came into this world fast!  Evie’s water broke at 1:30am and she called me at 3:30am.   I groggily answered the phone and asked her to update me once she got to the hospital.  I hopped out of bed to get ready and gather my things.  Still having not heard anything after getting ready to go, I texted her “Should I come down?  What’s your gut feeling?”  I wanted to get there when she was around 6cm dilated.  I waited a couple more minutes and heard nothing, so I trusted my gut and left.  The hospital is about 25 minutes from my house and this was Evie’s second baby so I expected that she would be here faster than a first labor.

I walked in the hospital room at around 4:30am and it was apparent that things were moving quickly.  James didn’t even have time to move their car out of the loading zone, so I ran downstairs to move it for him.  I got back up to the room and Evie delivered Bentley into this world about 5 minutes later in the tub.  I had considered stopping by McDonald’s for some Sweet Tea before going to the hospital and I am so glad that I didn’t.  I could have missed her birth!  The midwife missed it as she was in a delivery next door and who knew that Evie would only have a 3 hour and 15 minute labor!  Short but intense.  But the reward was great.  Their little girl is precious.  And her birthday was appropriately documented to be remembered forever.

Amelia 12-Days New | Golden Newborn Photographer | Denver Colorado

Everyone knows I love babies.  Isn’t it obvious?  My girls are getting big, so I think photographing newborns is just the best.  I get my baby fix AND I get to sleep through the night.  This sweet little gal was SO much fun to photograph.  And I couldn’t have asked for a sweeter couple than Megan and Theirry.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I have the sweetest clients.  I feel so blessed.

Little Miss Mia was only 4 pounds 6 ounces at birth.  Such a tiny peanut!  Yet completely full of personality at just 12-days new.  Who says that about a newborn?  I am so excited to share these images.  There were so many to choose from, so it was hard to pick!

Jamie + Chris | Denver Highlands Maternity Photographer

I’m not entirely sure how I luck out with the sweetest clients…but I do.  And I love it.  Jamie and Chris have been trying to have a baby for the last five years.  She had gotten to the point of not really thinking she could get pregnant.  So she didn’t even know she was pregnant until she was already 16 weeks!  Such a blessing!  I could not be more excited for them.  Jamie contacted me to schedule a newborn session…and a very last minute maternity session.  She was due the day before these photos were taken.  We decided to do them in their Denver Highland neighborhood.  Denver in the background, Little Man Ice Cream…it was just perfect.

Their little bundle of joy arrived today and I am impatiently waiting for a text with all of the details…including the gender!  Can’t wait to photograph this little one this weekend.

Newborn Baby Eli | Golden Newborn Photographer | Denver Colorado

This is little Eli.  Just a little peanut and born week late, just before Christmas…only 5 pounds 8 oz at birth.  And boy is this little guy going to have a good birth story when he grows up.  He was supposed to be a girl!  That’s right.  The ultrasound technician was wrong!  What a shocker when he came out a boy!!  Can you imagine?  I can’t.  I think I might have cried out of feeling so unprepared.  I’m a planner.  With my own girls, I found out the gender as early as a possibly could…as in, as soon as I could make an appointment at one of those 3D places, I did…because how could someone wait 5 more weeks for the doctor’s office to tell you?  I know.  A little ridiculous…but I just needed to know!  Needless to say, Eli’s room will be need to be repainted.  But his Mommy and Daddy are thrilled to have a son…it just took a little getting used to.  And he was just a doll.

Newborn Baby Myles | Littleton Newborn Photographer | Denver Colorado

Have I told you lately how much I love photographing newborns?  LOVE.  This is Myles.  6 days new.  He weighed 6 pounds 11 oz.  His mama, Whitney, contacted me a few months ago to schedule his newborn session and we took her maternity photos a few weeks ago.  I always ask how people find me because, well, I’m nosey like that.  She found me on Google.  And something about my “hoarding” butter resonated with her.  THAT’S what made you call me over someone else?  Love it!

And this little guy is just adorable.  You’d never know how hard of a time he gave us from the images below….this little boy had one eye open practically the entire time.  And I got a message later that day that he was out like a light and limp like a noodle…and that extended into the following day as well.  Little squirt!  No big deal.  Just made us work a little harder.  I am seriously loving these.
