Scott sent me an email one day saying and I quote: “Emily is going to be contacting you about a photo shoot. Tell her you are pretty booked out until first of the year!!! I would however love to schedule some time with you to take some pictures of the three of us. It is a surprise for Emily.” How sweet is that?? But I am not so great at not telling the truth. It can be heard in my voice, seen on my face, and I swear that if I were to send her an email, something would give me away. So when I got that email, what did I do? I just didn’t write her back. Ha! Luckily we were able to schedule something pretty quick. Emily arrived with her eyes closed and had absolutely no clue what was gong on. I feel so privileged to know this family and to be apart of these special moments. I photographed Emily when she was pregnant and then took Jackson’s newborn photos. And now I got to see him at just a few months old. I love to watch this family grow and change. This little boy is SO loved.
I have had the privilege of photographing this sweet family for the last two years. And their kids just get cuter by the year. Hunter, age 4, is such a character…and man is he fast! The kid can run from a camera like you wouldn’t believe. And funny faces? He is full of them. Which isn’t exactly what we are looking for when trying to get that “Christmas Card Photo”, but such is life and I think we managed. And then there is Verity who is one. Love her name, right? Daddy does her piggy tails. I think he should teach my husband! Anyway, I could photograph her all day long. Not that she would let me. But I would.
I try to go into family sessions with relatively low expectations that kids will do as we want. I try to just document them “being them.” And those usually are the best anyway. Enjoy!
